Ham and eggs at Billy Green's!

The Inn is often referred to as "Billy Green's", but who was Billy Green? Well he was the husband of Mrs (Ma) Green, who was the real driving force behind the Inn. A Justice of the Peace, Governor of Penistone Grammar School and an Oxford Graduate, she also managed to maintain a steady supply of ham and eggs to Langsett visitors during the Second World War, who would come in droves to walk around the reservoir, then to the Inn to enjoy the rare treat of ham (from the Green's stock of pigs) and fresh eggs. Billy Green was also famous as a breeder of Shire horses, some pictures (of him?) can be seen in our long room.

Penistone & Stocksbridge MP, Angela Smith, has awarded the Waggon & Horses at Langsett a certificate in recognition for its quality food and drink.

The award is part of a promotion run by the All Parliamentary Beer Group to support local pubs.

Commenting on the nomination, Angela said: “Local pubs are important for many reasons, however, it is important that they offer quality beer and where appropriate quality food, the Waggon & Horses at Langsett does both. Their home cooked food is always superb and the local beers are always worth a try.

Everyone who loves pubs should make time for a visit to the Waggon and Horses, I promise you won’t be disappointed. However, if the Waggon & Horses is a little too far, please do support your local pub, I’m sure a warm welcome is waiting for you there.”

The All Parliamentary Beer group is a cross party group which campaigns and promotes local pubs and beers.
